The Economic Develpment Committee

The Committee meets every month with time and date posted around town and on the News and Events section of this site, generally the 4th Tuesday at 4pm. Meetings are normally at the Union Hall and are usually televised on the community access channel - sctv7. Please check the postings around town or on the web for details in the event the time, date or location changes or call the Town Office at (207) 548 - 6372.

The mission of the EDC is to encourage economic development and plan for responsible growth in a manner that is consistent with our local values in order to preserve and enhance the town’s unique characteristics.

We work with state, regional, county and local development organizations to assist our businesses and prospective businesses. We have participated in TIF financing and have established a Tax Increment Financing Policy to offer consistency. We also participate in the BETE/BETR (Business Equipment Tax Exemption/Reimbursement) programs. We have developable land in town that is included in the Pine Tree Zone which provides significant financial incentives for new private investment. We welcome businesses to contact us to discuss any plans they may be considering - we are here to assist.

We recommend that you check our Business Directory which lists many of the current businesses in town. This can be found at our directory page. Also, feel free to download a copy of our Business & Visitor Guide. This will give you an idea of what currently exists and where your business may fit. We have also posted a variety of town maps that show the Land Use Divisions, Shoreland Zones, Power, Town Water, Sewer, etc - find them here: Maps.
