Town Government
and Infrastructure

Congregational Church - SearsportSearsport governs itself by town meeting, while a board of selectmen and a town manager oversee town water, sewage treatment, police patrol, fire protection, emergency medical service, recreational programs and a library.

Six miles away is Waldo County Hospital, which offers a full range of services including acute care, home health care, oncology clinic, hospice programs, mammography, CTScans, and has an active staff of 25 physicians. Close by also are two long term care facilities and several boarding homes.

Searsport recognizes tourism as a major industry and has many Bed & Breakfast Inns, motels and campgrounds. There are two banks in the downtown area and several flea markets and gift shops as well as many fine dining facilities and retail services available.

There are several churches in the town and others in the surrounding communities. Maine School Administrative District 56 includes Frankfort, Searsport and Stockton Springs. Each community has a K-5 elementary school, all students attend middle school and high school in Searsport. High school juniors and seniors may take courses at the Waldo County Regional Vocational Center. The District also has an active adult education program.
